A square in Istanbul. Taksim district and square took its name from Taksim Maksemi, where the water of Galata-Beyoğlu was “taxed”.
Before becoming a square, the district, which is a narrow area where old houses are lined up,
has taken its present look in time after it was turned into a square and expanded.
The Republic Monument and its surroundings in the middle of the square are used as a ceremony place and take the function of a meeting place.
Nostalgic tram runs from the beginning of the square to the Tunnel.
